Нельзя и не упомянуть фильмы “Отражающая кожа”, "Дни жатвы", книги “1922” и “Лолита”.
Сюжет
1947 год. Лоретта и Уолтер Харрис переезжают на ферму. В дом его родителей. Уолтер — писатель, Лора — безработная домохозяйка. Оба не преуспевают.
Семья испытывает финансовые трудности. Ситуация осложняется тем, что Уолтер должен деньги неким людям. И хотя мужчина держит супругу в неведении, Лора догадывается, как и догадывается, что Уолтер ей изменяет.
Лора понимает: она отказалась от мечты, работы и возможностей ради мужчины-неудачника, которого даже не любит, и оказалась теперь в пустом и холодном доме без средств к существованию.
С трудом продлевая очередную ссуду она узнает, что издательство застраховало жизнь Уолтера: в случае смерти или признания его без вести пропавшим, выплата составляет 30 тысяч долларов. У Лоры рождается план.
