Description:
Two of the West Somerset Railway´s most popular locomotives – Class 47 and Class 03 – come together in this collection of preserved diesels for Train Simulator. The Class 47 was one of the first mass-produced diesel locomotives following the gradual decommissioning of steam locomotives on the UK railway network in the 1960s. It was a popular and versatile model, with 512 copies produced in total, which operated on both passenger and freight transport throughout the country. Several subclasses were introduced, many of which had heating for passenger trains, but others were designed to work with pushing trains or as test locomotives, and some had long-range tanks for inter-regional transportation. The Class 03 was one of British Rail´s most successful small 0-6-0 diesel shunters, along with the Class 04. A total of 230 models were built at British Rail´s factories in Swindon and Doncaster between 1957 and 1961 for shunting and pilot work on industrial and port routes. However, declining demand for shunting locomotives has meant that many of the class have been decommissioned since 1968, although about a quarter of the original class are still preserved today. The Class 47 D1661 North Star is a resident passenger train of the West Somerset Railway and was one of the first class locomotives dedicated to the Western Region. He finished his career on the main line quite recently, in May 2007, under the number 47860 and is equipped with long-range tanks, as he worked on long-distance passenger routes for most of his life. The Class 03 D2133 is currently used by the West Somerset Railway for similar shunting operations at Minehead Station, moving trains and locomotives, as well as forming trains daily. The locomotive was originally allocated to Taunton during its main line and has the distinction of having never left Somerset in its life. Both locomotives are available in their 1960s British Rail colours, Class 47 in a two-tone green scheme and Class 03 in green with yellow ends. The BR Mk1 wagons are included, as they can be seen on the railway, and various two-axle freight wagons. The locomotives are also compatible with Quick Drive, giving you the freedom to drive BR Class 47 and BR Class 03 locomotives on any route that supports Quick Drive for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Scenarios specifically designed for the West Somerset Railway route are also included (available separately and required to play these scenarios).
