Creative black& white photography

As an instructor, I often find that students may know the “how” to do something, but they don’t understand the “why.” Worse, sometimes the photographer knows what he or she wants, but doesn’t know how to get it. I try to show my students many of my photographs and explain the hows and whys of my decisions. Understanding the reasoning process makes it easier for them to make decisions when they’re shooting. That’s why I wrote this book: to try to shed light on the technical and aesthetic choices that go into successful photographs. This book can be seen as a step forward in creating better black and white photographs. By explaining the whys of the decisions I make in my own photographs, I hope you’ll learn how to recognize the priorities hidden in each frame. My goal isn’t to make you look like me, but to learn how to create photographs that you’ll enjoy yourself. There´s nothing worse than doing something you love but being unhappy with the results.
