Presets in Lightroom and Photoshop are pre-defined setting files that apply a specific style and mood to your photo with just one click. This powerful tool speeds up your editing workflow and helps create color harmony across a series of images.

In Lightroom, presets primarily focus on basic adjustments like exposure, contrast, temperature, and tone curves, and they are applied non-destructively to RAW files. You can find them in the left panel of the Develop module and simply click on any preset to instantly see the changes on your photo.

In Photoshop, however, presets generally fall into two categories: Actions, which record and replay a sequence of editing steps, and Camera Raw presets, which mimic Lightroom´s adjustments within the Camera Raw filter. There are also Adjustment presets that include adjustment layers like Curves or Color Balance.

To use presets, simply download the files with extensions like .lrtemplate (for Lightroom Classic) or .xmp (for newer versions of Lightroom and Camera Raw) and install them in the designated folder. In Photoshop, you can add them via the Actions panel and the "Load Action" option.

The most important point is to treat presets as a starting point, not the final result. Since every photo has unique lighting and color, after applying a preset, be sure to manually tweak settings like temperature, exposure, and shadows to suit that specific image for the best output.
