Portrait Lighting for Digital Photographers

I first met Steven Dantzig about eighteen months ago. We are both contributing writers to ProPhotoResource.com (a well-regarded photography community site), and we had previously had a casual email exchange. It wasn’t until I visited my daughter, who was in college in Honolulu, where Steve lives, that we were able to see each other.
Over a few drinks, it quickly became clear that Steve shared my passion for photography in general, and for books, teaching new photographers, and lighting in particular. We became instant friends, and this book is the result of that simple conversation. While I am grateful for my small part in the book’s creation, I am incredibly honored that he asked me to write this introduction.
As I read his text, I was struck by Steve’s ability to explain the fundamental science (the physics of photography) while simultaneously embracing the creative side of the art. Most photographers agree that knowing, understanding, and applying the scientific side, while necessary, is dry and boring for most creative minds.
